Breastfeeding: The best start in life

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, and continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond.

Breast milk provides numerous benefits for babies, including:

 1. Optimal nutrition: Breast milk contains the perfect mix of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals for infants.

2. Immune system development: Breast milk contains antibodies that help protect babies from infections and diseases.

3. Bonding and emotional development: Skin-to-skin contact and the physical closeness of breastfeeding promote a strong bond between mother and baby.

4. Health benefits: Breastfeeding has been linked to a lower risk of various illnesses, such as ear infections, diarrhea, and respiratory tract infections.

5. Brain development: Breastfeeding has been shown to enhance cognitive development and improve academic performance.
